Introduction
Gauri Waghmare (Bhumi), the domineering wife of Govinda Waghmare (Vicky), has caused a commotion in his life. His lover Suku (Kiara) aspires to work with Govinda as a choreographer. In the midst of all of this, his destiny decides to upend reality, starting a comedy of errors in which everything goes wrong until a grand scheme is formed.

This is the year of cinematic experimentation, and audiences, particularly in India, are finally welcoming material that deviates from the usual fare. But time and time again, a director chooses to go back in time and revive the look of his forebears, and almost succeeds. An overused style from the previous ten years is difficult to adapt; you either nail it or utterly go nuts. Surprisingly, Govinda Naam Mera is a really intelligent film that recognises its time period while drawing inspiration from the past.
One of those movies, Govinda Naam Mera, doesn’t start to take itself seriously until the final ten minutes, when it finally decides to show all of its cards. Govinda Naam Mera was written by Shashank Khaitan, who has a pretty good track record of entertaining his audience in the commercial space with his original stories. That does not, however, mean that the roughly remaining two hours should be utterly boring. It is constructed, and Khaitan is more skilled at doing it. Vicky Kaushal, who is incredibly effective and captivating, frames an aggressively dramatic world that is impossible to exist but sells it.
A man who is being tormented by his wife, attempting to maintain a healthy relationship with his girlfriend, and engaged in a court dispute with his stepbrother over the estate his deceased father left for him and his mother, his second wife, whom he wed while working on a movie set. The mother is in a completely different situation. Even with a small amount of screen time, the secret she is keeping makes her stand out. Therefore, absurdity is the key to our world—in all the best possible ways. The challenge now is to put all of this together, generate a tonne of issues, and then resolve them all while maintaining the humour.
Khaitan does a decent job at it. He develops situational humour and has faith in the abilities of his actors. Even his housekeeper has more power in his home than he does because of all the problems he caused Govinda to build. Now that everything he touches is working against him, he must defend himself. When he eventually succeeds, you will undoubtedly chuckle. The film may make you laugh at ridiculous things, but it is clever in placing the right silly things in the proper order.
Yes, there are occasions when the setting seems ripped off or eerily reminiscent of the times when Govinda switched between two women without telling either one of them. Or when Akshay Kumar came up with the silliest schemes, but the crowd was persuaded enough to even put money into the ridiculous charades. But I don’t mind too much because the actors provide the necessary individuality.

The most important lesson to be learned from Govinda Naam Mera is that Vicky Kaushal can also be a David Dhawan hero (the David of the 90s I meant). You never notice Vicky Kaushal since the actor fits into this set-up so well and believes in Govinda Waghmare. In contrast to performers who have excelled in this genre, he took a more innovative approach to playing this role. He is a pleasant surprise in this one, therefore Mr. Kaushal, give us more of this!
As an actor, Kiara Advani is developing tremendously. She has a lot going on here and is not just a glitzy girlfriend. The actor makes an impression in every role she is given, and you care about how she fits into the overall plot.
Bhumi Pednekar is amusing to watch because of how she dominates others around her with her careless attitude. I wish she had more screen time since she leaves a strong impression with what little she has to work with. She may have been more delicious.
Renuka Shahane playing Govinda’s mother is fantastic. If you want to avoid spoilers, avoid discussing her storyline. The rest of the cast, including Dayanand Shetty, Amey Wagh, and Truti Khamkar, are also breathtaking to see.

As a director, Shashank Khaitan is fully aware of what his audience anticipates from him. To suit them, he attempts to do that. But occasionally, one may also clearly observe that. With Govinda Naam Mera, he develops a comedy from scratch without letting any other aspect take centre stage. He performs his difficult job admirably enough to amuse the target audience.
You shouldn’t analyse and examine this movie in search of insight or solace. It is a ridiculous comedy that starts off loose and then tightens up to make you laugh. Full points for additionally producing 2,000 promotional music videos and for not included them in the film to make it appear as though the protagonist committed suicide. Nevertheless, the tunes are not my gig.
